PIERSON, STACEY
Chinese Ceramics: A Design History
V&A Publishing, London. 2013, 5th or later Edition. (ISBN: 9781851775767). Hardcover, with dust jacket. Book, English text; Hardcover (with dust jacket); 144 pages; 200 colour illustrations; 22.5 x 28 cm; 0,9 kg; Used book with minor signs of wear on the front, spine and back cover. Interior as new, apart some minor image blurring in some pages. The dust jacket is now protected with a clearcover.; This book establishes a new and accessible approach to thinking about these globally significant objects, drawing on objects from the Victoria and Albert Museum's world famous collection, including many previously unpublished pieces. Chinese ceramics are among the most widely admired and collected ceramics in the world. From elegant Song celadons to decorative Ming vases and colourful Qing famille rose, ceramics produced in China have influenced taste and daily life globally. They are set apart from other world ceramic traditions by their remarkably long history of continuous production, consumption and appreciation and their exceptionally high quality. Because they were widely traded and admired, Chinese ceramics have also had an impact on numerous aspects of global cultural activity, from dining to drinking, decoration to architecture. Ceramics were among the first Chinese objects acquired by the V&A. From 1854, the museum purchased and received as gifts and bequests more than 8,000 examples of all different types. This comprehensive collection forms the focus of this new survey of the subject. Chinese Ceramics offers a design in history of these fascinating objects, emphasizing their origins as designed objects and their related production, consumption and role in trade and transfer. The V&A is also unusual in collecting Republican period pottery and propaganda ware, now emerging as new collecting categories, illustrated and discussed here for the first time. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included.

Her original text was for many years the standard reference on the subject of blue and white porcelain. This text was later revised in 1976, after Sir Percival's death and after some duplicate pieces were sold to help support the activities of the Foundation. Much has therefore changed in the field of Chinese ceramics and at the Foundation since the publication of the early editions of this Section and a new Introduction has been included in this Revised Edition." excerpt from the preface by Stacey Pierson, April 2004. POPE, JOHN ALEXANDER
Chinese Porcelains from the Ardebil Shrine
Sotheby Parke Bernet Publications by Philip Wilson Publishers Ltd, London. 1981, 2nd Edition. (ISBN: 0856670979). Hardcover, with dust jacket. Book, English text.; Hardcover (with dust jacket); 22.5 x 29 cm; 2.084 Kg; 194 pages plus appendix with 142 black and white plates.; Used with wear marks on the dust jacket, which is slightly faded on spine and the right side of the front cover. The interior is as new except for a previous owner stamp on the front free endpaper.; The collection of early Chinese porcelain brought together by Shah Abbas the Great of Persia and piously presented in 1611 to the dynastic shrine at Ardebil is among the finest that have survived. Now rehoused in the Archaeological Museum, Teheran, it is rich in blue-and-white painted wares of the Yuan and Ming dating from the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries, and also includes monochrome-glazed and polychrome-enamelled wares and a good group of Lung-ch'uan celadon. This study by John Pope, the celebrated authority and former Director of the Freer Gallery in Washington, was first published by the gallery in 1956, and was soon acknoledge as a classic. In it Dr Pope not only provides a lavishly-illustrated survey of the collection with a full account of its formation and fortunes, but also examines in detail the chief problems confronting the historian of Ming porcelain as a whole. While others have pressed forward with that task his meticulous study of this unique collection still remains essential reading. The new edition incorporates additional footnotes by the author and an extended bibliography. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included.
