FARJEON Eleanor
Martin Pippin in the Apple Orchard. Illustrated by C.E. Brock. [Sixth Impression]. SIGNED PRESENTATION COPY WITH ORIGINAL VERSE
Collins,, [1924]. 8vo., Sixth Impression, with mounted coloured frontispiece (original tissue guard present), title in blue and black, 4 fine mounted coloured plates (all original tissue guards present) and pictorial endpapers, title and a few leaves lightly spotted; light brown cloth, upper board and backstrip blocked and lettered in black, gilt edges, a very good, bright, clean copy. THIS COPY WAS PRESENTED BY FARJEON TO CICELY MANNING. IT BEARS A LENGTHY AND WARM INSCRIPTION, TOGETHER WITH AN EIGHT-LINE VERSE IN TWO STANZAS TITLED 'WINDFLOWER' AND DATED 'CHRISTMAS, 1925' ALL IN THE AUTHOR'S HAND. CEB's only illustrations for Farjeon; 'his delicate water-colours are, in this case, splendidly reproduced' (Skilton). Interestingly the endpapers, printed in a style reminiscent of Kate Greenaway, carry Brock's signature in a form not used elsewhere. Skilton, p.163.
