Hungarian artist Joseph Domjan tells the tale of a humble woodcutter who can understand the language of birds. He retrieves the king's ring, which has been swallowed by a peacock, and as a reward claims a recalcitrant princess for his bride. Domjan's gorgeously patterned color woodcuts, which illustrate the story, are included in the permanent collections of a number of museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Very good .

The plays are "Beauty and the Beast", "Bluebeard", "Cinderella", "Red Riding Hood" and "The Three Bears". The dialogue is printed in English followed by a translation into French. The stage directions are in English. There is no set and costume information published for "Bluebeard".

A brief biography of Dinah Maria Mulock, told for young people, is given in the rear of the book. Born in Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England in 1826, she married publisher and man-of-letters George Lillie Craik. She was a novelist and poet as well as a writer for children. Very good .

The binding is lightly stained. The corners of the front cover are creased.There are pieces out of the bottom corners of the rear cover with tears along the lower end of the spine. 8 pages. Illustrated with a pictorial title & 3 full-page woodcuts in the text. There is a piece out of the bottom corners of pages 5 & 7, with very slight loss. Fair. First edition. This book of verses is attributed to Ebenezer Porter Dyer, a congregational clergyman [1813-1882]. According to Sidney Babcock's ad, the toy books are edited by Thomas Teller. Fair .

ORIGINAL POSTER SIGNED BY THE ARTIST JANE DYER - sc - An 18 inch high by 27-1/2 inch wide color poster for the illustrated children's book by Mem Fox. The poster is illustrated with Jane Dyer's depiction of a little yellow gosling, yawning as it spreads it tiny wings beneath the protective wings of a magnificent white goose. Titled at left within a frame set against the dark blue starry sky. The author and illustrator's names are printed along the bottom margin. The poster is signed and dated in blue ink at right under the image "Jane Dyer 1993". Folded vertically and horizontally for mailing, there are creases along the right edge of the poster and tiny creases to the top corners. Very good. Very good .
