Laurens Janszoon Coster, Coster also spelled Koster, (born c. 1370, Netherlands-died 1440?, Haarlem?), Dutch rival of Johannes Gutenberg as the alleged inventor of printing.Little is known of this early printer, whose last name means “sacristan,” his title as an official of the Great Church of Haarlem. He is mentioned several times in records between 1417 and 1434 as alderman, tax assessor, and treasurer and is presumed to have died in a plague that struck Haarlem in 1440, when his wife is recorded as a widow.

Father Tuck's "Days in Fairyland", painting book complete with original paints (no. 4047)

London - Paris - Berlin - New York - Montreal, Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd., [1914], 27,5 x 12,5 cm, 16 pp., printed paper cover, single stapled signature, including six solid watercolour paint colours. The cover is somewhat smudged and there is a waterstain on the inside of the front cover, but there are no damages and only one colour plate has been (partly) coloured (in pencil), the other three plates are not coloured. Next to each colour plate, there is the same illustration printed in full colour as an example for what colours to use. The beautiful illustrations are by Mabel Lucie Attwell (1879-1964), who has illustrated very many children's books, including "Peter Pan and Wendy" by J.M. Barrie. This copy has a pasted in admission form for a painting competition organised by the publisher. This form is dated to 1914. l Father Tuck's patent "Paint Box" series

Boston, Trustees of the Public Library of the City of Boston, 1976, 19pp. original paper binding, only 1000 copies published, Jacques Martin Barzun (November 30, 1907 - October 25, 2012) was a French-American historian known for his studies of the history of ideas and cultural history. He wrote about a wide range of subjects, including baseball, mystery novels, and classical music, and was also known as a philosopher of education. In the book Teacher in America (1945), Barzun influenced the training of schoolteachers in the United States. He published more than forty books, was awarded the American Presidential Medal of Freedom, and was designated a knight of the French Legion of Honor. The historical retrospective From Dawn to Decadence: 500 Years of Western Cultural Life, 1500 to the Present (2000), widely considered his magnum opus, was published when he was 93 years old. Scarce.
