A scarce first edition set of of catalogues listing all the works in the library printed before 1641 and from 1641 to 1850. The first volume consists of all the items printed before 1641 with this terminal date chosen because it coincides with the decline of classical and medieval ideas and the beginning of modern scientific medicine. The second and third volumes run from Aanwending to Lytton listing over 20,000 items covering Aristotle to Morgagni and Corvisart. The Wellcome Library is founded on the collection formed by Sir Henry Wellcome, whose personal wealth allowed him to create one of the most ambitious collections of the twentieth century. His interest lay in the history of medicine, from alchemy and witchcraft to ethnography. In a cloth binding with marks to boards. Bumping to head and tail of spine with sunning to spine. Five volumes. The Letter-Books of the City of London are a series of fifty folio volumes in vellum containing entries on matters that concerned the City of London beginning 1275 and concluding in 1509. The books, written in scores of varying hands, are not in strict chronological sequence, but speak in detail of the business habits of Chamberlains of the City of London and Common Clerks in the times of the Plantagenets, and contain entries in English, French, and Latin. The present set is comprised of the following:Letter Book B, circa AD 1275-1312; C, circa AD 1291-1309; D, circa AD 1309-1314; E, circa AD 1314-1337; I, circa AD 1400-1422.  In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings.
