Glasgow, James Macelhose 1876 xi, 127pp (of which several are folded diagrams), 5 additional folded plates 23x16, green cloth, glt text Corners slightly bumped, cloth shelf marked, some of the folded pages have creasing and wear with closed tears not affected the contents, good thus. Owner's plate on ffep - William Dick Cleland Deas was the Superintendent of the river Clyde, and this book was based on a paper given in 1873 to the ICE, for which he was awarded a Telford Avenue by the Institution. It includes additional material and commentary on his paper, as well as the updated paper itself. (Harper and Dick-Cleland were a Glasgow engineering firm)

Béranger 1898 xii, 457pp; 510pp; 551pp; 459pp; 973 figures across four volumes, some fold out, with 6 hors texte fold out locomotive cross sections in vol IV. 28x20, maroon cloth, silver text, four uniform volumes. Re-bound set (probably in late 1930s - owner's signature from 1941 on new end papers) in very good condition. One of the most important works on steam locomotives of the era, with nearly one thousand illustrations of locomotives and their equipment, including examples from across the world. DeMoulin was particularly impressed by the Midland Railway's locomotives, praising its "magnificent and exceptionally well maintained rolling stock" as an example to emulated elsewhere. A superb set of great technical and historical interest.

Leamington Spa and London, Newcomen Society 1954 151pp, 20 plates, 43 other figures in the text, copy numbered 123 of the 350 printed. 27x20, green cloth over light green cloth, glt text to spine. Damp mark on front and spine, not affecting contents, browning to end papers, edges uncut and somewhat rough thus, overall a good copy. Originally a series of articles published in The Engineer in 1948, and then revised and issued as a volume as a tribute by the Society to Dickinson, its Honorary Secretary for many years until his death in 1952. He spent much of his career at the Science Museum, supervising the displays of early steam engines, and wrote biographies of Watt, Boulton etc.

Bruxelles, Veuve Monnom (extrait des "Traveax Publics", Tome XLV), 1887. 46pp plus 5 large folding plans in rear pocket. Cloth, 23x16. Recased, maps quite fragile and one rebacked but still in good condition. The authors were engineers and worked on the project. The construction of this four arched metal bridge was directed by M Meyer and M Gleim. It made a major contribution to the development of commercial activity in the city, crossing, as it did, into the Zollverein freeport. Lovely maps.
