¶ Lambertus Zwiers (1871-1953) is vooral bekend als ontwerper van behang. In 1917 had hij een lovend besproken eenmanstentoonstelling van zijn ontwerpen in het Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. In dit boek is een bijzondere bijlage opgenomen waarin de behang ontwerpen, weefsels, moquettes, tapijten en verpakkingen voor heet eerst gepubliceerd zijn. Dit alleen al de reden om dit boek aan te schaffen. Lambertus Zwiers deed echter nog veel meer: hij werkte als opzichter voor Rijkswaterstaat, legde een spoorlijn aan in Nederlands-Indië, startte een bouw-en ingenieursbureau in Amsterdam, ontwikkelde zich tot architect en richtte het instituut Jacob van Campen op, dat zich als eerste in Nederland toelegde op correspondentieonderwijs. Daarnaast was hij (hoofd)redacteur van een zevental bouwkundige tijdschriften, schreef een groot aantal boeken over bouwtechnische onderwerpen waarvoor hij zelf band of omslag ontwierp, richtte tentoonstellingen in en ontwierp meubels voor 't Binnenhuis. Zwiers was, kortom, een gedreven creatieve ontwerper en entrepeneur, die zich met zijn beste werken moeiteloos voegt in de canon van het Nederlandse ontwerp.

¶ Kunstenaar Johanna van Eijbergen (1865-1950) was de enige vrouw in Nederland de rond 1900 op het gebied van de metaalkunst haar stempel drukte. Het is de hoogste tijd om haar indrukwekkende werk in de schijnwerpers te zetten. Het boek Johanna van Eijbergen | 1865-1950 toont haar belangwekkende oeuvre dat ze in slechts tien jaar tijd wist op te bouwen. Bij de Nederlandse metaalkunst rond 1900 praten we veelal over kunstenaars als Jan Eisenloeffel (1876-1957), Frans Zwollo sr. (1872-1945), Carel Begeer (1883-1956) en Johannes Cornelis Stoffels (1878-1952). Ook de naam Johanna van Eijbergen behoort echter toe aan dit rijtje invloedrijke kunstenaars uit die tijd. Goldscheider. History of the Company and Works Catalogue

¶ Goldscheider, a Viennese factory (est. 1885), soon sped to the top of European ceramics makers. Figures and vessels of faience and terracotta as well as bronze and alabaster, all of top quality in respect of form and workmanship, were created in the Historicist, Jugendstil and Art Déco period styles. A crucial factor was collaboration with distinguished sculptors and ceramicists of the day - including Demetre Chiparus, Walter Bosse and Josef Lorenzl - who were responsible for a great many of the Goldscheider designs. This success story was quashed by National Socialist aryanisation in 1938: the Goldscheider family was forced to emigrate, the firm was sold and the new proprietor was unable to sustain the high aesthetic quality standard. The Goldscheider brothers did manage to open new ceramics businesses while in exile in the US and England and Walter Goldscheider even returned to Vienna after the Second World War to resume his post as managing director of his old firm; however, in the 1950s the greatde d ceramics tradition of this venerable Viennese business ended when it was sold to the German Carstens company. Although a huge clientele of Goldscheider ceramics collectors exists worldwide, there have been virtually no publications dealing with this important field for collectors. Now a catalogue of works with information on more than 4,000 models (including over 1,600 reproductions of models) and an extensive history of the company (with over 400 colour illustrations) is available. Further, our publication provides an exhaustive index of artists as well as a complete overview of marks.
