Catalogue of Highly Important Japanese Illustrated Books and Drawings from the Henri Vever Collection: Part I, Part III and Final Part
London, Sotheby and Co, 1974-1997. Cloth. A three volume catalogue of the Sotheby's auction of Henri Vever's noted Japanese art collection. One of the most renowned jewellers of the early 20th Century, Vever was similarly known for his profound interest in Japanese art and for being a member of the Amis de l'Art Japonais, a group of enthusiasts including Claude Monet, who would meet reguarly to discuss Japanese prints and other works. The collection catalogued here, on top of its enormous aesthetic and financial worth, is notable as it was disposed of in several instances - mainly due to various occupying forces in the two World Wars that Vever lived through - until resurfacing for this Sotheby's auction in 1974, concluding in 1997. With colour and monochrome reproductions throughout, these catalogues give a rare glimpse into one of the leading art collections in its field. Included here is: Part One: 26th March 1974 (412 lots) Part Three: 24th March 1977 (415 lots) Final Part: 30th October 1997 (197 lots). Part Three contains a seperate sheet of pricing information.
