The first edition of this very scarce work.Printed for private circulation.Bound in a striking half morocco binding by Zaehnsdorf, with the original wraps bound in.Illustrated with twenty-eight full pages illustrations.A catalogue detailing the March 1888 exhibition of the art of Randolph Caldecott at the Brasenose Club, Manchester. Caldecott was an illustrator who was a great influence of children's books illustrations throughout the nineteenth century.The Brasenose Club was founded as a social club in 1825, intended to promote the association of literary, scientific, and artist men. Early members included Sir Charles Halle, Edwin Waugh, and Charles A. Duval. With examples of Caldecott's art engraved by Henry Watkinson.Bookplate of Charles Plumptre Johnson to the front paste down. Johnson was the son of the Physician-Extraordinary to Queen Victoria. Himself he was known as a yachter, owning a fine fleet of modern yawls, including the 'Moonbeam&apos. His impressive library extended to some 6,000 volumes.Bookplate of W. A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the recto of the front endpaper.Collated, complete. In a half crushed morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards, bound by Zaehnsdorf. Externally, very smart, with some very light rubbing and a few small marks to the boards. P. Southern, with Christmas wishes from Lady Spencer-Churchill, Chartwell 1965. Clementine and Winston Churchill were married for fifty-six years; she was given a life peerage following her husband's death.Illustrated with examples of his work in both colour and black and white. Complete with an unclipped dust wrapper. A delightful presentation copy regarding Churchill's artwork, presented by his wife.
