Battered and worn covers, some linen cloth ties missing, ink stamps of previous owner (J.E. and F.H. Church) at title page and publisher's brochure pasted inside front flap. Wing folders on their last legs, but they've done their jobs. Interior introductory booklets and plates in easily Very Good condition, a bit sunned along edges, uniformly toned, some slight dog-earing. German language texts. Volume I, published in 1890: xxxv pp. of text, followed by 17 3/4" x 12 1/2" tall and wide, respectively, quite finely rendered in black-and-white, with multiple captions (French and German), location, date and many with a legend, all published by J. Engelhorn in Stuttgart. Missing plates 32-35; 37-40; 42-48; 50; else sharp and bright and clear and distinct, captioned, precise. Occasionally darkened at the edges. Plates feature: Munich, facade d. Theatine Church; Dresden: palace in the large garden; Zurich: town hall; Munich: Nymphenburg, detail d. Pagodenburg; Vienna: Portal d. Palais Kinsky; Fribourg: Loretto Chapel; Augsburg: Episcopal Residence; Munich: Preysing Palace; Potsdam: stable building d. city ​​palace; Stuttgart: Detail d. royal castle Mainz: Portal d.
