Publisher's brown embossed cloth; gilt spine title; spine very slightly faded. ***** Tacón arrived as Spanish Governor of Cuba in 1834. His despotic administration resulted in the alienation and radicalization of those Cubans seeking independence (many of whom were exiled). By preventing elections of Cubans to the Spanish Cortés, he further wounded national pride and increased opposition to his rule. Tacón derived substantial personal wealth from his support of the slave trade and in 1838 he resigned, returned to Spain and was created Vizconde de Bayamo and Marqués de la Unión de Cuba. This work was written in regard to charges arising out of Tacón's conduct as Governor. ***** References: Palau 326520 (under Tacón); Sabin 94193; Shaw & Shoemaker, A checklist of American imprints for 1839, no.57699; Carlos M. A la vez se encuentran en ella curiosas y œtiles noticias sobre la historia antigua de la Habana que no deben ser indiferentes para el verdadero amor patria. Esta obra va haciéndose muy escasa.'
