Yellow cloth titled in orange and gilt on the spine with gilt silhouettes of ostriches stamped in gilt on the front cover and in blind on the rear cover. The head of the spine is heavily bumped with some lighter bumping to the corners and tail of the spine. 264 & [3] pages, with color pictorial endpapers and profuse illustrations throughout, including several tipped-in black & white plates and several full-page color plates. The rear hinge is starting at the top and a few page corners are very slightly creased. Internally very good.

A substantial work printed in the USSR with Russian text in Cyrillic script on the origins of theatre from an anthropological perspective. The illustrations include depictions of primitive tribal and native rituals. Most of the plates depict early masks from different regions of the world. Good .

Eight tribes shared the basin of Mackenzie River: Chipewyan, Beaver, Sekani, Slave, Yellowknife, Dogrib, Hare and Nathani. Some scholars believe the Mackenzie River natives to be the last people to migrate from Asia into America, arriving not many centuries before the Christian era. At the time of this publication the territory's population was only about 4,000. Very good .

"There were five tribes on the plains in the eighteenth century, the Blackfoot, Assiniboine, Sarcee, Gros Ventre, and Kootenay. The Gros Ventre retired southward into the United States about 1899, and the Kootenay crossed the Rocky Mountains into British Columbia; but many Cree Indians, and even some Ojibwa, moved out onto the plains to take their place." In the mid-eighteenth century there were about 25,000 Plains Indians but the tribes were decimated by two terrible smallpox epidemics. At the time of this publication, only about 15,000 were left, though their numbers were slowly increasing. Very good .
