A comprehensive and fascinating travel work containing a first-hand account of Major Hesketh Hesketh-Prichard's journey through Patagonia and southern South America. This was one of many of Hesketh-Prichard's explorative trips financed by Cyril Arthur Pearson.Hesketh-Prichard was commissioned to travel to Patagonia in the early twentieth century by Pearson with the express purpose of determining whether or not the rumours of the prehistoric Mylodon in this area were true. Once Hesketh-Prichard determined that there was in fact no evidence of the existence of the Mylodon in Patagonia, he used the remainder of the trip to explore the forests of the Andes. The first edition of this work. Illustrated with six plates in colour, four photogravure plates, thirty full page plates in black-and-white, three folding maps in colour, and numerous in-text illustrations. Written by Kenneth Roberts, an historical novel writer from Maine. He was extremely fascinated with the history of the United States and its colonization. The illustrator, N C Wyeth created over 3,000 paintings and illustrated over 112 books in his lifetime. He was best known for his works on the Scribner Classics series, the first of which was Treasure Island. In a quarter buckram binding with cloth covered boards.
