Bookseller's ticket on the rear pastedown and on the front pastedown the small Fountain Lawn Library bookplate of coal baron La Fayette Butler, many of whose books were left untouched from the time of their purchase by him until their sale in the summer of 1999. Browning to endpapers with the rear endpaper lacking resulting in browning to the last text page. Slight fraying to the head of the spine. Near Fine and quite scarce Stopford Augustus Brooke (14 November 1832 – 18 March 1916) was an Irish churchman, royal chaplain and writer. He was a correspondent of many famous writers of his time. In 1890-1 he took the lead in raising the funds to purchase Dove Cottage, William Wordsworth’s home in Grasmere from 1800 to 1808, and establishing it "for the eternal possession of those who love English poetry all over the world.

Attractively bound in full green morocco leather with triple gilt rules on the covers, gilt-decorated and lettered spine with five raised bands, gilt dentelles, top edge gilt; 94, [2] pages. Bound with new endpapers, lacking as nearly always the case the two ad leaves at the front; otherwise complete with the half-title page and the leaf of ads at the end. This long poem was inspired by Captain Bligh's account of the mutiny on board HMS Bounty. Covers very slightly bowed, otherwise a Fine copy .

Two volumes (4" x 6-1/2") bound in recent half brown morocco with matching corners retaining the original marbled boards, all edges marbled. Leaf B8 (pages 31-32) lacking in first volume, as usual; C3 in second volume in uncancelled state, with word "wicked" present on page 37, line 9. [Tinker 1953; Wise, Coleridge, 15]. Contributions by Samuel T. Coleridge (27 poems, some previously unpublished), Poet Laureate Robert Southey, Charles Lamb, Robert Lovell, Humphry Davy, Amelia Opie, and others. Pages 31-32 contained Southey's "War Poem," but were canceled in all but two known copies as the poem was considered unpatriotic. A third volume was advertised but never published. A remarkable and important collection of early Romantic poetry, here in unusually nice condition. Near Fine, handsomely bound .

This copy is an oddity as signature 24, pages 369-384, were never bound in, though one can only tell by examining the contents as there is no visible sign in the book's appearance to indicate the missing signature. Owner name of Virginia Elizabeth Murdoch on the front endpaper dated 19 February 1892. Hinges sound, light wear. Near Fine but for the missing signature .
