The author volunteered on the death in Korea of his brother, and joined the 1st Battalion Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. Captured at the defensive line at the Imjin River he and others were marched away in a column from which he escaped but was recaptured soon afterwards.His group was joined for a while by Capt. Farrar-Hockley (The Edge of the Sword) suffering from badly damaged feet but well enough to support the author in foraging for extra rations. Kinne had already been subject to intensive interrogation was and encouraged to see the error of the Imperialist Allies. After night marching his group caught up with the survivors of the Glosters and the attempts to brain-wash him continued. With their failure came beatings and torture to make him 'confess' to his perceived crimes, culminating in continued beatings and confinement to low wooden boxes. With the armistice he was eventually released for repatriation, and later the award of the George Cross for holding out against extreme pressure, edges tanned, a few faint fox marks to upper edge, light partial tanning to free endpapersm dustwrapper: eubbed with slight loss at tips, faint vertical crease at upper hinge, very good in a very good dustwrapper,

Coming to hate music and transferred to the Cops of Drum and in 1950, after posting to Hong Kong was able to transfer to the Glosters and join them in Korea.
