Paris, J. Rothschild, 1881. Leather. A heavily illustrated limited edition copy of Charles Yriate's study of Florence. A limited edition copy of this large folio on Florence by Charles Yriarte. Published in French with 500 engravings including 56 plates, collated and complete. One of 50 limited edition copies printed on Japanese, Dutch, or Chinese paper. Yriate was a French writer and draughtsman who studied architecture in the École des Beaux-Arts. After roles as a building inspector and a magazine editor, he quit his post in 1871 to devote his time to travelling. The present work on Florence contains chapters on the fifteenth century Medici dynasty, the Renaissance, Etruscan Art, and the monuments of the Republic. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. From the library of George Norton. With a blue and red shield adhered to the front pastedown. With a prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. The inscription reads, 'Left to me by Mr George Norton who died September 20th 1904. Janet T. Rose&apos. In a quarter calf binding over patterned boards. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed the extremities, a little more so to the joints. Internally, firmly bound.
