Through his analysis of the oversights, accidents, and uncertain pragmatism that led to the decline of the empire, Kwarteng argues that the British Empire was not formed by a coherent policy. Kwarteng served as Chancellor of the Exchequer under Liz Truss for thirty eight days in 2022 before he was dismissed after his mini-budget caused sterling to drop.
