Kerstgedichten. Uit het Russisch vertaald door Peter Zeeman. Met een nawoord door Kees Verheul
Bezige Bij, 2005. Linnen band met stofomslag. Pp: 61. ISBN: 9789023418832. Cond./Kwaliteit: Goed.

Joseph Brodsky 32876
A Part of Speech
Oxford University Press, 1980. Paperback. Pp: 151. Winner of the 1987 Nobel Prize for Literature. Joseph Brodsky's second major collection contains poems from the years 1965 to 1978, translated from the Russian. Despite isolation from his native Russian culture and language since becoming an involuntary exile in 1972, Brodsky has inherited the tradition of Mandelstam, Akhmatova, and Pasternak. Restrained, sometimes humorous, sometimes brilliantly epigrammatic, his poems possess the serious, unfrivolous wit of his metaphysical forebears. ISBN: 9780192119391. Cond./Kwaliteit: Goed.

9782070712540 Joseph Brodsky 32876, Poèmes, 1961-1987
Joseph Brodsky 32876
Poèmes, 1961-1987
Gallimard, 1987. Paperback. Pp: 250. AKHMATOVA, ANNA ANDREEVNA; LYN COFFIN (TRANSLATOR) ; JOSEPH BRODSKY (INTRODUCTION)
Poems
New York: W. W. Norton & Company, 1983. First Edition; Fourth Impression. Original Decorated Wrappers. ISBN: 0393300145. Anna Akhmatova, born Anna Andreyevna Gorenko on June 23, 1889, in Odessa, Ukraine (then part of the Russian Empire) , and died on March 5, 1966, in Domodedovo, Russia, was one of the most renowned and influential Russian poets of the 20th century. Akhmatova's poetry explores themes of love, loss, suffering, and the endurance of the human spirit in the face of political turmoil and personal tragedy. Akhmatova's early poetry was characterized by its lyricism, elegance, and classical influences. Her early collections, such as "Evening" (1912) and "Rosary" (1914) , garnered critical acclaim and established her as a prominent voice in the Russian literary scene. However, Akhmatova's life and art were profoundly impacted by the tumultuous events of the Russian Revolution, the Stalinist era, and the subsequent Soviet regime. During these times, her work faced censorship, and she experienced personal hardship, including the arrest and exile of her loved ones. Akhmatova's most notable and celebrated work is her cycle of poems called "Requiem," written between 1935 and 1940. "Requiem" reflects her personal experiences and the suffering endured by the Russian people during the Stalinist purges. The poems capture the anguish, grief, and resilience of individuals facing persecution and loss. Due to its political nature, "Requiem" was not published in its entirety until many years later. Akhmatova's poetry is characterized by its clarity, emotional depth, and profound empathy for the human condition. Her language is concise yet rich in symbolism, drawing on both personal experiences and broader historical contexts. She often employed traditional forms and meter, emphasizing the power of structure and craft in her poetry. Despite the challenges she faced, Akhmatova remained committed to her artistic vision and continued to write poetry. Her later works, such as "Poem Without a Hero" (1960) , demonstrate her ability to blend personal and historical themes, reflecting her enduring exploration of love, loss, and the complexities of existence. Anna Akhmatova's poetry has had a significant impact not only on Russian literature but also on the broader poetic tradition. Her lyrical and emotionally resonant verse, combined with her unwavering artistic integrity, solidifies her status as one of the most important and influential poets of the 20th century. ; Light wear to spine, covers & corners. ; 20.7 x 13.6 x 1.1 cms; 100 pages. Very Good with no dust jacket .

The Kenyon Review, Special Issues for a Patron
(Gambier, OH), (Kenyon College), 1979-1982. First Edition. Wraps. The first sixteen issues of the New Series of this important American literary magazine. These are special issues with loose quires laid into the covers. According to a letter from the editors dated 1990, included here, these issues were specially done for a patron who donated $100 per issue in exchange for autographed copies. A later note from an editorial assistant at the time states that the donor actually contributed much more than the stated amount per issue, more like $8000, and that only four years of signed copies were done, thus making this complete and the only known set. Nearly every contribution is SIGNED by the author, a total of more than 200 signatures, including duplicates, and including several winners of the Nobel Prize. Some of the better known authors: Samuel Beckett, Alexander Solzhenitsyn (3), Italo Calvino, Joseph Brodsky (2), Czeslaw Milosz, Harold Pinter, Derek Walcott, Claude Levi-Strauss, Woody Allen (2), James Merrill (2), George Crumb, Amy Clampitt (4), Ursula Le Guin (3), William Gass, Robert Hass, James Dickey (2), Sharon Olds, Rita Dove, W. D. Snodgrass, Joyce Carol Oates (3), Robert Bly, E. L. Doctorow, Barry Hannah, Michael Harper, David Ignatow, Mary Jo Salter, Christopher Logue, Anthony Hecht (2), Guy Davenport (2), Robert Pinsky, Harold Bloom, Tom Disch, Patricia Hampl, John Hollander, Alfred Corn, Brad Leithauser (2), etc. Two issues are missing a leaf with writings by Gunter Grass in one and Derek Walcott in the other. We suspect that these were never returned by the authors. Near Fine and quite exceptional, likely unique .
