First published c1856. A collection of plays written by English dramatist, poet and illustrator, best known for his joint works with composer Arthur Sullivan, with whom he produced fourteen comic operas. These included 'The Pirates of Penzance' and 'H.M.S. Pinafore&apos. This particular collection is comprised of Gilbert's first series of plays, containing 'The Wicked World', 'Pygmalion and Galatea, 'Charity', 'The Palace of Truth', 'The Princess', 'Trial by Jury' and 'Iolanthe&apos.With a signed binding of H. Sotheran, to the front. In full calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with light bumping to the extremities, causing a crack to the head of the spine. Light rubbing to the joints, with the front joint starting to crack. The odd small mark to boards. A touch of fading to the spine. Light offsetting to endpapers. Binders stamp to front dentelle.
