Text has no owner's name, tight binding, no tears to pages, very slight wear to boards at tips, front board bowed. Dust jacket is price-clipped, quite edge-worn with a number of edge-tears, also small chips at tips and one chunk missing from the upper edge about 3/4" X 7/8". Overall a nice Nearly Fine/Fair copy. Scarce in the dust jacket. Photos available. Good/Dust Jacket Included.

No inscriptions but remains of hard scribble on front pastedown and pages 46/7. 108 pages, 4 colour illustrations on plates, one detached, so assume 2 missing from other dealer's descriptions, many illustrations in the text. Undated but appears early 1920s. Poor with No dust jacket as issued.

Nottingham: Boots Pure Drug Co. 1938. Reprint. Hardcover. Clean, tightly bound book in grey boards with red illustrations which has no inscriptions, (the 'This is the book of...' printed on the front pastedown is not completed), page 131 has old tape marks from a fore edge tear, now neatly repaired (no loss), and frontispiece is creased and chipped at edges where it was laid in for some years, now reattached. The dustjacket is creased and chipped at the edges with loss at top of spine and covers also at bottom corner of front foldover. 222 pages, 12 plates and numerous black text illustrations by Gwynedd M. Hudson + 2 red illustrations on endpapers. Undated but appears to be a later Boots edition- the British Library gives 1938 for the 222 page edition. Good in Fair dust jacket.

Macmillan & Co. New York. 1889. New edition. 12mo. (7.5 x 5.2 inches). xii, 192, 12 pp publishers catalogue. Also an extra gathering bound in so that pages 117 to 124 appear twice. One gathering slightly sprung. Publishers dark green cloth with gilt and black decorative band across the top of the front board and the top and bottom of the spine. Black decorative roll to the bottom of the front board. Title on gilt to the middle of the front board. Spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Rear board with blind stamped floral roll to the top and bottom. Floral decorative endpapers. Neat two line inscription to the front free endpaper. The rear endpapers have an early previous owner's name and address written in red crayon to the free endpaper and a few short lines to the pastedown. Cloth a bit rubbed to the edges and a couple of small marks to the boards but overall a very good copy. An uncommon and attractive nineteenth century edition, printed in New York by J. J. Little and Co. This 1889 new edition was issued in several different coloured decoratve cloth bindings, with no priority established.

Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Boards covered in Mid green cloth on boards, with the gilt stamp of Brooks School, Andover, Massachusetts seal on the front board. Top edge gilt. Plain green endpapers. Minor fading to the spine but overall a very good copy in an attractive fine binding. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master Bookbinder.

Full deep red morocco, two gilt ruled borders on boards and a previous owners name in small gilt lettering to the bottom front board of each book. Spines with three raised bands, each with gilt piping. The compartments decorated with gilt stamps of The Mad Hatter, within a decorative border. Other compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. A single gilt ruled line to the boards edges. Turn-ins fully decorated and double ruled in gilt. Decorative hand printed endpapers with yellow, black and red design. Yellow silk book-markers. A fine, and very attractive, pair of bindings on these wonderful books.
