Illustrated with frontispiece and seven plates. Collated complete. A series of brief but graphic vignettes of life in London for the civilians living there during the Second World War. Exposing the true daily life for the country of England, as it has been so dramatically changed by a year of war. Written by Vera Brittain, an English Voluntary Aid Detachment Nurse (VAD), writer, socialist, pacifist, and feminist who wrote of her experiences in war. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and minor fading to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with light shelf wear and chipping resulting in loss to the extremities, particularly the head and tail of the spine. Sunning to the spine and the odd small closed tear. Ageing to the panels and the odd mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the endpapers.
