Written by Honore de Balzac, a French novelist and playwright. Illustrated by Gustave Dore, a French printmaker, illustrator, painter, comics artist, caricaturist, and sculptor best known for his prolific output of wood-engravings illustrating classic literature. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges. Small splits in the cloth to the head of the spine and the board tips. Front hinge starting but firm, rear hinge tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting.
