Aristotle's 'Poetics' is the earliest surviving work of Greek dramatic theory and the first philosophical treatise to focus on literary theory. Concerned with the art of poetry, which he divides into verse drama, lyric poetry, and epic. Here is the second edition translated with notes on the translation and the original by Thomas Twining. Also featuring two dissertations on poetical, musical, imitation. Complete in two volumes, by Daniel Twining. Four advertising leaves to the edition to vol. I. Bound without half titles. Rebound in uniform full calf with titles in gilt to morocco spine labels, renewed endpapers, marbled edges. Externally sound with some shelf wear, minor loss to tail of spine vol. II, both volumes rubbed with loss to leather surface to front boards. Previous ownership inscription to verso front free endpaper vol. I dated 1837. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
