(1870s); 5 1/2 x 9 3/4; single sheet, illustrated with engravings and ruled with an elaborate border; tiny crease to lower right corner, else very minor wear - in about near fine condition. German-American poineer winemaker Charles Krug (1825 - 1892) came to California around 1850 to work as a newspaper editor. In 1851 he would be hired by the "Father of California Wine" Agoston Haraszthy (1812 - 1869) as an apprentice - making him Napa Valley’s first hired winemaker and producer of Napa Valley’s first commercial wine. In the 1870s, he founded the Napa and Sonoma Wine Company with a focus on shipping wine to the East Coast and was one of the co-founders of the St. Helena Vinicultural Club. The beautifully-rendered stock certificate was for a $1,000 shares at $100 each. Near fine .
