Manuscript; 8 x 5; loose sheets, pp. [12], text and illustrations in pen and pencil to rectos only; illustrated with a map and full-page drawings and diagrams; old fold lines, else minor wear; in very good or better condition. A charming record of a trip through the great lakes by an anonymous passenger, onboard SS Charles A. Paul, it included the titles and signatures of the entire crew, a map of the route, and cross-section diagrams of the deck, mates, quarters, workrooms, etc. The Charles A. Paul steamer began its life as a bulk freighter, named General Garretson, for the Gilchrist Transportation Company in 1906. It would be acquired by the Wilson Transit Company in 1913 and renamed several times, becoming the Charles A. Paul in 1937. It would be scrapped in 1973. Very good .
