Benjamin Rush (1811 - 1877), lawyer, author, and grandson of social reformer, physician, educator, Founding Father, and signatory to the Declaration of Independance Benjamin Rush (1746 - 1813) wrote his current letter in support of Captain Wilkes and the Trent Affair - the diplomatic incident in 1861, which almost started a war between the US and England, when the U.S. Navy captured two Confederate envoys from a British Royal Mail steamer.
