Addresing the President of the Citizens Savings Bank, the letter mentioned one H. E. Johnson, "who was killed on the Bank Job" and the ongoing investigation by various involved officials and institutions. The F. O. Engstrum Company was founded by Swedish - American Franz Otto Engstrum. Immigrating to the US in 1871 he worked in New York and Louisiana before setting up a construction business in Texas, where he would be responsible for the construction of a number of historic landmarks in both Houston and Fort Worth. He moved to Los Angeles in 1892 and incorporated the F. O. Engstrum Company in 1904, quickly becoming one of the most prominent building-contracting firms west of the Mississippi, specializing in reinforced-concrete construction of large institutional and commercial buildings.
