An uncommon memoir, it told the story of a young Polish woman, who served during WWI. Sophie was a tomboy from a wealthy, well-educated family, who, inspired by her grandfather's tales of 19th-century Polish heroines and by her father and brother being called to serve in the Austrian Army in 1914, ran away from home to join a Polish legion fighting for the reunification of Poland. She would be promptly send back home to her mother, but would eventually serve in the Polish Women's Voluntary Legion as a Lieutenant. Very good .
