First edition, single issue; 10 x 6 1/4; pp. [1], 50-96; yellow-orange, pictorial wraps; illustrated with several engravings, including a rebus; nicks with small loss of paper to tips of spine; a bit of creasing to wraps; overall in very good condition. An early issue of this literary periodical, it contained "The Freak of Fortune. A Story of Revolutionary Times," "Did Miss Ruthy Have Her Way?," "Little Addie," etc. Published between 1872 and 1887, it was founded in Boston by German-American publisher, lithographer, and bookbinder Frederick Gleason (1814 - 1896). He would be best known for establishing the illustrated weekly "Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion" in 1851, which he modelled on the "Illustrated London News." . Very good .
