This is a Very Good Copy of this Book.This is the First Putnam's Sons UK Edition with 1901 date to the bottom of the title page and there is one previous inscription to the half titole page dated Christmas 1901 and one small previous owner's name to the front endpaper.First Edition Thus and in it's original blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine and upper cover and with an attractive design to the front cover in pale blue and white.The work has an introduction by Louis Becke and is illustrated with a frontispiece and 2 further plates by A. Burnham Shute.The outer boards are a little worn and with a couple of scuff marks present to the front cover.Cloth is showeing 2 small splits to the cloth at head of spine and the corners are a little knocked and frayed.Internally the contents are pretty clean with some age toning to the text block edges,light offsetting to the endpapers.There is a 1cm tear to bottom edge of page 7/8 and with very slight cracking to the front hinge join.Very light water type stain marks to the edges of pages 10-30 noted but really not bad and are only 2-3mm in width and at the fore-edge of the pages.All in all a decent copy of a much sought after titles.The story tells the adventures of the wandering sailor Ishmael and his voyage on the whaling ship Pequod, commanded by Captain Ahab. Ishmael soon learns that Ahab seeks one specific whale, Moby-Dick, a white whale of tremendous size and ferocity. Comparatively few whaling ships know of Moby-Dick, and fewer yet have encountered him. In a previous encounter, the whale destroyed Ahab's boat and bit off his leg.
