Title: The LETTERS Of JUNIUS, From the Latest London Edition, With Facsimiles of Attributed Authors
Description: New York: Leavitt & Allen, (n.d.). Orignal publisher's cloth stamped in blind. 2 volumes in 1. 8vo. Gd+ (sp sunned/chipped sp head/1" split at top of front joint). Of a Whiggish political bent, the Junius' letters attacked many of George III's reign, including the monarch himself. The first Junius letter appeared in Woodfall's 'Public Advertiser' in Nov, 1768 and they were published periodically through 1772. The original author of the letters has never been satifactorily determined, though current scholarship attributes them to Sir Philip Francis (denied by Woodfall), a clerk in the War Office during the years Junius' letters were appearing in the 'Public Advertiser.'.
