Author: Muir, W[illiam]. Blake, William [1757 - 1827] - Inspiration. Title: ODE To SEA - SICKNESS.; With Aplogies to R. Burns, A. Pope and W. Blake. 1 April 1884
Description: [Edmonton, England?]: William Muir, 1884. 1st Edition. Bound in late 19th C maroon half-leather binding, with marbled paper boards. Marbled eps. Original covers *not* bound-in. [1], 6 ll. 6 leaves of plates, plus title leaf. Each leaf is a lithograph of a watercolor illustration which surrounds text, rendered in the style of William Blake. 9-3/8" x 7-1/4". Front board professionally reattached. Modest shelfwear. A VG+ copy. Despite current views that this work inspired by Blake, perhaps buttressed by the Blake facsimiles Muir subsequently did issue, Muir himself didn't see this publication as a specific imitation of Blake, stating in 1884 correspondence to a Mr. Hamilton "it has no literary resemblance to any thing that he wrote and of the illustrations only the first and last have any thing in common with his style." [from OCLC entry 19890914]. That said, you be the judge. In any case, a decidely rare publication, research suggesting this Muir's first published work, of which we find only 3 on OCLC, with RBH having no auction records, nor bookseller listings, for the work.
