Description: Philadelphia: Printed by William Young, Bookseller, No. 52, Second-Street, the Corner of Chesnut-Street, 1795. 1st US Edition (Evans 781). Modern brown full calf binding executed in a period style, with maroon leather title label to 2nd spine compartment. 2 volumes in 1: [6], 7-519, [3] pp. P. 210 correctly numbered. Volume 2 without title page; caption titles for each of the three parts: Letters from Certain Jews of the German and Polish Synagogue at Amsterdam to Mr. Voltaire. Pp 13 - 45 contain a section entitled: Letters of Certain Portugueze Jews with Critical Reflexions on the 1st chapter of the 7th volume (1) of the Works of Mr. de Voltaire, with respect to the Jews. Translation of: Lettres de quelques juifs portugais et allemands à M. de Voltaire. On pages 10-12: "Epistle dedictory, or, Letter from the editors to Mr. de Voltaire" signed Joseph Lopez, Isaac Montenero, Benjamin Groot, Jews in the environs of Utrecht. On pages 328 - 519: "A short commentary extracted from a greater" signed Joseph Ben Jonathen, Aaron Mathatai, David Wincher. 8vo: [A]1 B-3T 3U (-3U4). 8-1/2" x 5-1/8". Binding: Fine. Textblock: age-toning to paper & occasional pencil tick mark in margins, otherwise VG. Attributed to Antoine Guénée in the Biographie Universelle, Ancienne et Moderne [Paris: 1817, v. 19.].
