Some general wear & soiling to outer leaves, Very Good. Wilkes "was a British radical, journalist and politician. This publication 'a pornographic poem dedicated to the courtesan Fanny Murray, and a parody of Alexander Pope's 'An Essay on Man'. Fanny Murray, née Fanny Rudman and later Fanny Ross, was an 18th-century English courtesan, mistress to John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich and dedicatee of the fateful Essay on Woman (1763) that led to the downfall of John Wilkes." On p. 18 "Book VI." is a misprint for Book IV, indicating this is one of 100 copies reprinted in Stuttgart by J. Scheible in 1872 (NUC NE 0174383).".
