Hannay was a respected Scottish novelist, journalist and diplomat, whose literary career was influenced by Thackeray & Carlyle, eventually becoming editor of the Edinburgh Evening Courant in 1860. This volume collects his lectures delivered at the Literary Institution, Edward Street, Portman Square, in 1853, which explores literary satire as written by Horace & Juvenal [Lecture 1] to Swift, Pope & Churchill [Lecture IV] to Byron, Moore, Etc. [Lecture VI]. Uncommon in the trade.
