One large pictorial portrait of Senator John Briggs. 14-1/2" x 23". A VG copy, light soiling and age toning to edges, otherwise clean and bright. Senator John Briggs was the man behind California Proposition 6 (Nov. 7 1978) which would have banned gays, lesbians and anyone else who supported gay rights from working in California schools. This incentive failed due to the overwhelming opposition of the measure. Harvey Milk, was a leader in fighting against this proposition. Using the slogan "Come out! Come out! Where ever you are!" assisted in wide numbers of gay and lesbian folks coming out to friends, family, jobs, churches, etc. to help show opposition to "6". A diverse group people in high policitcal office at the time, i.e. California governer Ronald Reagan and President Jimmy Carter also opposed the bill. A special piece of California gay rights history.
