Unpaginated, though 126 pp [3 pages of adverts at front/rear & one page how-to, "Simplified Scoring System"]. Laid-in are 9 sheets of owner-created scorecards, for 8 July 1960 games. Oblong format: 7-3/4" x 12". Sunning to covers, with some edgewear. PO notes/doodle to covers, exterior & interior. Title leaf detached. A Good copy. Formerly the New York Giants, the Giants organization moved west to San Francisco in 1958. The team initially played in Seals stadium, moving the cold confines of Candlestick Park for the 1960 season. The 1959 & 1960 San Francisco Giants, with a roster sporting such household names as McCormick, Mays, McCovey, Cepeda & Marichal [in 1960], played 154 games during the regular season [Mays lead the team by playing 152 in 1960]; and in that 1960 season, they won 79 games, lost 75 games, and finished in 5th position. Here we have a score book documenting this season, as recorded in real-time by a fan. The first game is August 17, 1959, the Giants vs the Cincinnati Redlegs, with the last recorded July 11, 1960 All-Star game, held in Kansas City that year. 26 1959 games are present; a 1960 exhibition game March 12th, 1960, then 35 1960 games as well as the All-Star game & one 1959 World Series game. Plus 8 games scored on the home-made, laid-in sheets. While all the usual stats are present, hits, Ks, walks, attendance, umpires, etc, the book is also replete with marginal asides, e.g. "McCormick get 5-0, 4th shut-out; 3rd s.o. in row; 7th win in a row." [May 13th, 1960 v. the Dodgers] or, with the one World Series game recorded, "Attendance 92,294 - all time World Series Record." While an inscription in the front, "To my darling Julie / --Dad" hints the owner may have been a young lady, and a number of the games scored are done so in a juvenile hand, we do find other styles therein, so perhaps a family endeavor? And away games are also found herein, so we postulate those games contested in cities other than San Francisco were probably heard via radio, vice sitting in the stands, which, no doubt, occured more than once during these two seasons. A nice piece of San Francisco Giants memoriablia, from their early years in the City by the Bay.
