From a preliminary advertisement in Part I, EAST, "In commencing the serial issue of a work which it is hoped may be long continued, the Publisher and Editor deem it proper to say that their object will be to render it in every respect worthy of its title, and deserving of the National patronage.. The Volume of the work to which the part herewith published belongs will be exclusively devoted to views in the Seaboard states, from Maine to the Gulf of Mexico. The West will be illustrated in another Volume, which though issued simultaneously with this, and in the same style, can be procured separately as Subscribers may prefer."
