[Pennington Seminary]. [Wyndman, Harry T.] - '97 SENIOR DINNER. June 13th

Title: '97 SENIOR DINNER. June 13th
Description: : , 1897. Offwhite card cut in the shape of an owl, with purple illustration and lettering to front, and purple hand-written menu and sentiments to interior and rear. Now housed in an archival mylar sleeve. Handwritten invitation [4 pp]. Card illustrated to look like an owl. ~6-1/2" x 3-1/8". Minor toning and soiling, evidence of staple removal. Penciled signatures to interior. Very good condition, withal. Menu card most likely once belonging to Harry T. Wyndman (?), Pennington Seminary Class of 1897, whose name is one of the signatures inside, below the section labeled, in purple ink, "Signatures." The menu includes Boeuf a la Mode, Pommes de Terre, and wafers, among others. A short verse on the rear of the card reads: "The last did you say, | The last Sabbath day | That we will spend together? | Then many a fond word | Round this festal board | Must be spoken ere we sever." Pennington is known most famously in literary circles as the school where Jonathan Towley Crane, Stephen Crane's father, served as Principle prior to the Civil War, and which Stephen attended briefly in the 1880s; both occurences predate these items, of course.
