Folding illustrated collage to front. 9-3/4" x 7-1/2". Moderate wear to wrappers (chipping to top edge, 2" closed tear to rear wrapper, some foxing and discoloration to edges). Withal, an About VG example. Research indicates that this brochure is for the second (of three) hotel buildings housing the Hotel del Monte. The first, designed by Arthur Brown, Sr. opened in 1880 and was completely decimated by fire in 1887. The second building, based on the same design but with the enlargement of two additional wings, opened in 1888; floor plans in this brochure include these additional wings. Another fire destroyed this building, too, in 1924, after which the main building was rebuilt with reinforced concrete and the wings redesigned. "The Hotel del Monte stands in a beautiful grove of ancient oaks and pines a few hundred yards from the beach, and, with its back to the ocean and the trade winds, faces the south. From the hotel northward there are miles of beautiful san beach, affording at low tide a drive equal to the famous one of similar kind at Galveston. This beach extends south and west to Monterey..".
