"Patrick O'Riley and Patrick McLaughlin were the real discoverers of the Comstock lode in Nevada, though the credit went to Henry Thomas Paige Comstock, in whose spring the Irishmen washed their dirt. Comstock declared himself in on their first big clean-up, which amounted to mroe than $200.00. This was in January, 1859.".
