Description: [Chicago]: Rand - McNally & Co, 1900. 1st printing thus (presumed). Green paper wrappers, printed in blue. Now housed in a clear archival mylar sleeve. 16 pp. 6 pages of text, double-column. 6 full color maps, 4 double-page. Text illustrated with 16 photographic images showing divers aspects of China & its people. Folio. 14-3/16" x 11-1/4" Appears to be the same size, text and illustrations as that of Rand-McNally's "Geographical Series" Vol. 19, No. 1, July 19, 1900, albeit presented as a promotional item; F. A. Ferris & Co. advertisements are printed to the inside covers, including a full-page cartoon of "The Western Ham-isphere". The entire first page of text is devoted to a brief history of China, its religious culture, monarchy, and foreign trade, culminating in an anti-Boxer analysis of the Boxer Rebellion. Institutionally scarce in any format, with OCLC recording just one holding. Light toning and edge chipping to wrappers, with ~ 2-1/2" x 1/2" (at widest) triangle of loss to lower corner of front wrapper; faint dampstain to foot of front wrapper and gutter foot throughout; small closed tear to fore-edge of rear wrapper and last few leaves. Pages otherwise clean and bright. About VG.
