Description: [London]: Published by A. & F Pears Ltd, 1912. Ca 1912 (cf. Gimbel B155 [Chimes]; B165 [Cricket]; B179 [Battle of Life]; B186 [Haunted Man]; Hearn, p. 178 for the set). Each volume bound in cloth (different color for each title), with black & gilt stamping, and an oval color pictorial paper onlay to the center of each front board. All volumes, except Carol, with printed white paper dust jackets with wood engraving to front panel [engraving different for each volume]. 5 volumes (139, [1]; 147, [1]; 160; 144; 140 pp). Adverts begin & conclude each volume. 'Cricket' illustrated by L. Rossi with 22 drawings; the remaining 4 titles illustrated by Charles Green, with ~ 30 illustrations per volume. 8vo. 8-3/8" x 6-1/4". Modest wear to the bindings, bit of a slant, some foxing here & there. Overall, books VG - VG+, with Haunted Man showing some fraying to backstrip crown. The jackets are edge worn & soiled, with Haunted Man being the worse for wear, with the spine panel lacking 1-1/2" at top, so Good, with the others About VG - VG. While we've had this set a few times over the years, this the first occasion where the jackets were present. In that context & state, they're quite uncommon.
