Original publisher's orange cloth with gilt spine lettering & decorations. Lilac colored eps. 422 pp. Illustrated with 2 facing full-page wood engravings, prior to t.p. 8vo. 7-1/4" x 5". VG+ (spine a bit faded/board showing at lower tips/po name stamp to ffep & poi to preliminary blank). Per Soliday, ""Gives characteristics of western and Indian life from the author's observations [and experiences] on the Kansas Plains, Texas Ranges, and in California mines.", which in turn relies on the preface verbiage, which adds, "in the hunter's camp, and in the soldier's tent.".
