Per Soliday, ""Gives characteristics of western and Indian life from the author's observations [and experiences] on the Kansas Plains, Texas Ranges, and in California mines.", which in turn relies on the preface verbiage, which adds, "in the hunter's camp, and in the soldier's tent.".
