Title: FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT Of The HOUSE Of REFUGE Of PHILADELPHIA. With Appendix
Description: Philadelphia: William Brown, Printer, 1833. 1st thus. Not in American Imprints (though see 40049 for the 1st report of 1829). Original pale blue printed wrappers, stab sewn. Now housed in a clear archival mylar sleeve. 44 pp. 8vo, in 4s. Very faint stain to outer edge of text block [only, not to wrappers]. Minor wear to spine end paper. Withal, a VG+ copy. The "House" began operations in 1829, and continued its charitable & reformatory works until [our research indicates] 1911. Of note in this report are the numerous case histories, as well as letters from individuals with whom the indigent men, women & children were 'placed'. A valuable record for anyone conducting research into the attributes & efficacy of charity organizations.
