While Life Insurance as a business began in the US in 1759, it wasn't until 1843 with the establishment of the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York that operations began on a scale that foreshadowed what we see today. According to Tuckett, which is verified by history, this beginning on a very shaky foundation.. in this pamphlet he explains the myriad mathematical details of this actuarial science, and demonstrates how one may successfully select a company to insure oneself. A fairly scarce item chronicling the beginning of this industry- a 10/6/2000 OCLC search shows only 5 cc of this 1851 edition, with the only earlier issue noted a 32 pp item from 1850.
