Jackson a prominent early 19th c. physician who was 'one of the first in America to investigate vaccination in a scientific spirit' and was '.. largely responsible for founding Massachusetts General Hospital.' Jackson Sr wrote this memorial shortly after his son's death in 1834, and '. he never recovered from this overwhelming loss.' The book 'is an interesting psychological document in that it is entirely objective and almost wholly devoid of any evidence of the deep feeling which prompted him to write it.' [DAB].
