Description: Portrait print of Johannes Jacobus Wissenbach (1607-1665), law progressor in Franeker from 1647-1665. His publications include Emblemata Triboniani (1633) and a commentary on the Justinian Code (1660-1664). Now largely forgotten, his commentaries were influential in the seventeenth century. He was admired by, and a friend of, the leading Dutch proponent of Reformed pietism, Gisbertus Voetius, who used Wissenbach as his authority on law. He is the cousin of Jacob Leisler, son of Johannes Wissenbach, pastor at Fronhausen under the counts of Nassau and brother of Leisler's grandfather Heinrich Wissenbach, a regent and professor at Geneva Academy.Artist and publication date unknown so far. With text of C. Schotanus in Latin. Etching and engraving on laid paper, with some foxing mainly on the edges. Total size 200 x 145 mm.
