Description: Monseigneur Colbert, marquis de Villacerf (1629-1699), viewing the tapestries depicting the life of Alexander the Great based on the designs of Charles le Brun.The scene depicted on the tapestry being lifted against the wall shows the scene of Alexander and Hephaestion visiting the tent of the wife of Darius.Le Brun's designs were woven several times at the Gobelins workshop in Paris during the last third of the seventeenth century.
