The passepartout where the drawing is mounted reports the sketch to be by Willem Maris, Dutch artist from the nineteenth century. According to the RKD record of the artist, he visited Norway in 1871 with Alexander Wüst (1837-1876).This rather unique sketch testifies the artist's practice of sketching in plain air, capturing the atmosphere with some strikes of chalk on paper.[NL] Landschap met een heuvelachtig landschap met uitzicht op een meer. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk een fjord in Noorwegen. Op het passe-partout waarop de tekening is gemonteerd, wordt vermeld dat de schets van Willem Maris is, een Nederlandse kunstenaar uit de negentiende eeuw. Volgens het RKD, bezocht hij Noorwegen in 1871 met Alexander Wüst (1837-1876).Deze vrij unieke schets getuigt van de praktijk van de kunstenaar om in de lucht te schetsen, waarbij hij de sfeer vastlegt met enkele krijtstrepen op papier.  Black chalk drawing on paper; total: 201 x 313 mm; despite some rubbing on the right margin, in very good condition.
